World Series Game 6: Why the Yankees Win World Series Tonight (PICS)
Alright, I'm from the DC-area and grew up an Orioles fan and an overall Yankees-hater, so it pains me to utter these words: The Yankees will win their 27th World Series and first since 2000 tonight in New York.
The fans of the Bombers will revel in their dominance and burn down the Bronx. They'll scream and yell how they are the best team in baseball and on the cusp of another dynastic run. They might even challenge Mayor Michael Bloomberg's recent close mayoral win and elevate previously-hated playoff failure Alex Rodriguez to be his nearest contender.
And the weird thing is that the fans might be right.
I said might.
A-Rod has been an absolute revelation. Clutch hits, solid fielding and not a peep about how much he loves himself, dislikes SS Derek Jeter or how he adores his ballpark puppet Kate Hudson.
Joe Girardi, the one-time Yankee catcher who now helms the Yankees has been just good enough to win. Not pulling the magical moves or soothing the ruffled egos of aging stars like Joe Torre used to, but thats not his job. His job is to win. Not run for mayor. (I swear if Torre ran for mayor he would win).
The Phillies have been in trouble since Game 3. Locker room tangles, bullpen missteps and a very quiet Ryan Howard are not great recipes for success.
The only good recipe in Philly these days is for Cheesesteaks (rimshot!).
Freaking Yankees. Congrats.
