Profootballtalk.com and ESPN are both reporting what could be a major development in the 2010 Super Bowl between the Colts and Saints.
Both indicate that superstar defensive end Dwight Freeney may not be able to play in Sunday's championship due to a torn ligament in his ankle. The team is currently reporting it as a 'low ankle sprain'.
F
reeney is the key to Indianapolis' pass defense, registering 13.5 sacks in 2009. He has long been considered the anchor to a defense that is otherwise pretty average without him. Should he not be available, Drew Brees will have more time to pick apart the Colts' secondary with the vast array of weapons available to him.
The Saints, entering last week as the underdog, may well become an odds-on favorite if subsequent news confirms Freeney's unavailability.
