Having high hopes of going for their 3rd consecutive win, Earnhardt was slated as the crowd favorite and frontrunner. He even qualified for a 192.761 track record.  Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin were also top contenders in the Sprint Cup Series ranks. This season’s first three races of the NASCAR events saw Hendrick Cars coming out on top. Earnhardt Jr .nearly led Daytona with a 2nd place finish, and Jimmie Johnson pulled off wins at Las Vegas and Fontana.
