While all eyes were on Tiger Woods in his return to golf, the Masters tournament 2010 edition became a Phil Mickelson affair. Mickelson won the tournament shooting 67, 71, 67 and 67 to earn a total of 272 and win the tournament at Augusta National. On the Masters 2010 leaderboard, Lee Westwood finished second, with Anthony Kim third. Tiger Woods tied KJ Choi for fourth place, a respectable finish after a five month hiatus from golf.Â
Mickelson was interviewed following the win, which makes his third green jacket during a great golf career. Mickelson said it was an emotional moment to share with his wife and kids after the victory. Currently, Mickelson's mother is battling breast cancer, making this an extra special win for the golf star. Mickelson's impressive Masters play featured back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13 holes.
"To win this tournament, it's the most amazing feeling," Mickelson said from Butler Cabin. "This has been a special day. I'll look back on this day as very memorable, something I'll always cherish." (ESPN.com)
Tiger Woods finished fourth as mentioned, and the multiple-time Masters champ let that show with his post-tournament comments.
"That's not what I wanted," said Woods, playing for the first time in five months since a sex scandal severely damaged his reputation. "I wanted to win this tournament. As the week went along, I kept hitting the ball worse. It was not very good."
Tiger added that he only enters the tournaments to win, and that in today's effort he made too many costly mistakes around the green. The other story seems to be Lee Westwood who finished in second, and finished in third place at both the British Open and PGA Championship.
