Today was the fastest 2 minutes in sports! The 136th running of the Kentucky Derby was held Saturday evening and televised on NBC, as twenty thoroughbred horses attempted to achieve the big race victory. The field of horses and jockeys were lead out to the wet track as "My Old Kentucky Home" was sung by crowd members accompanied by a band. Favored the most in today's first big Triple Crown race were Lookin at Lucky and Awesome Act. There were several other horses with top decent odds as well, but only one could finish in first place. Here are your Kentucky Derby 2010 results and winning horses at Churchill Downs for this May 1, 2010 race. See complete order of finish & bet payouts here.
Conveyance led early out of the gate with Sidney's Candy second, while Noble's Promise and Line of David were in 3rd and 4th. Lookin at Lucky fell back 20 links or so from the lead. Conveyance continued to lead the field with Sidney's Candy giving chase. However, as they turned down the final length of the track, jockey Calvin Borel on Super Saver made a huge stride to take the lead and eventually the race. The race not only was a big win for horse, owner, trainer and jockey but also ended up making one lucky fan $800,000 richer. The man won a contest for the $100,000 Dream Bet, and chose to have the money bet on #4 Super Saver due to a gut instinct. What an instinct!

Approximately 155,000 were on hand to witness today's Derby, many of whom donned rain gear along with their suits, dresses and traditional hats. There was rain showers most of the day in the Kentucky Derby location. Conditions were wet on the track making for a lot of muddy and messy conditions. However, the rain let up, sunshine poked through and the twenty horses still did their best under the tricky weather conditions.
Congratulations to today's winner, Super Saver, his jockey Calvin Borel, trainer Todd Pletcher, and the owner & breeder WinStar Farm LLC!
