Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that UFC heavyweight champion and former WWE wrestling superstar Brock Lesnar will be returning to the octagon soon.
On July 3, at UFC 116 from Las Vegas, Lesnar will defend the UFC heavyweight strap against interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Lesnar enters the fight at 4-1, with victories over Frank Mir and Randy Couture. Carwin, with a 12-0 record, 4-0 in UFC, won the interim title with a victory over Mir at UFC 111. The interim championship was awarded when heavyweight champ Lesnar was unable to defend his title against Carwin at UFC 106 due to mononucleosis and the intestinal disorder diverticulitis.
Lesnar, 6-3, 265 pounds, had some difficulty with the Budweiser people when he beat Frank Mir at UFC 100 on July 11, 2009, then taunted the Bud Light sponsorship and drank a Coors Light.
Ironically, Bud Light is sponsoring the unification match between Lesnar and Carwin. Tickets range from $100 to $1,000. Pay per view is expected to cost $44.99.
