The Atlanta Braves proved today they are going to try to make a serious playoff run.
They made a trade today, which I thing they got the better of the deal.
The Braves sent the underachieving Yunel Escobar to the Toronto Blue Jays for Alex Gonzalez. Right off the bat ,I have to say this is a great move for the Braves.
Gonzalez has always been a good player, and this year he is having a great year at shortstop. He has 17 homer runs (the most by all MLB shortstops), and is a great fielder, I was surprised when I heard they traded him.
Escobar was quickly losing popularity with the Braves fans, and players, and gaining a reputation of being a slacker.
An anonymous Braves player told this to MLB.com -- "It's easier to put up with some of that stuff when the guy is hitting .300," one Braves player said on Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Escobar had made a lazy throw that pulled Troy Glaus off first base and in jeopardy of suffering a serious injury during the sixth inning of a 4-0 win over the Mets.
Sounds like there was trouble in paradise. Maybe the trade will help Escobar get a fresh start.
