A shocking story hit the TSN website on Sunday declaring that Chael Sonnen who lost to Anderson Silva in UFC 117 last month apparently had apparently tested positive in a drug test taken after the fight.
This story went on to say that Sonnen who came within seconds of beating Silva and becoming the new middleweight champion found out along with UFC president Dana White about the test results on Friday. White expressed sympathy for the fighters who test positive along with some frustration.
“When one of them fails a test, the government is going to fine them and suspend them and tell them they can’t make a living for a year,†White said. “So should I come in after they’ve already lost the ability to make a living for a year and been fined all this money and, in the worst economic disaster of the world, fine them another huge amount and take away their ability to make a living even longer?â€
Unfortunately the rematch between Silva and Anderson will be put on hold indefinitely as Sonnen is facing the probability of at least a year long suspension.
