Minnesota Twins All-Star first baseman Justin Morneau, who hasn't played a game since July 7 when he suffered and inadvertent knee to the head during a slide, has officially been ruled out of the entire postseason, according to ESPN.com.
Morneau suffered a concussion on the slide, and his still yet to fully recover. Â This will be the second postseason in a row that Morneau will miss due to injury. Â He was shut down in mid-September of 2009 after suffering a stress fracture in his lower back.
Because of the post-concussion symptoms, Morneau had already been ruled out of the Twins first-round matchup, far before they knew they'd be once again facing off against the hated New York Yankees.
Morneau hasn't had any setbacks due to the concussion, but GM Bill Smith didn't want to push his star back into action too soon.
"It's one thing to go out and take batting practice and groundballs, but he hasn't done any sliding, has hasn't taken any relays and he hasn't done some of the quick-reaction plays that go on in a game."
Morneau himself knew he had to be smart about the concussion, stating "Head injuries aren't like a broken wrist where you walk around with a cast on. Â It's inside....anybody who's been through it can know what it feels like, but it's hard to describe.
Prior to the concussion, Morneau had been batting .345 with 18 HRs and 56 RBI.
Does Morneau have a girlfriend to nurse him back to health? Â Well, he did, until he married her. Â The concussion means more time for Justin Morneau to spend time at home with his girlfriend-turned-wife Krista Martin. Twins star catcher Joe Mauer was Morneau's best man during the wedding between him and Krista Martin, according to playerswives.com.
