UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will be out to make some history during UFC 121 this Saturday when he puts his title on the line against Cain Velasquez. Â
According to an online MMA article Lesnar, who will be entering the octagon with a 5-1 record will be trying to become the first heavyweight fighter to defend his title three straight times.
“Obviously I’m the heavyweight champ for a reason,†Lesnar who defended his belt against Frank Mir and Shane Carwin said. “I don’t think Cain Velasquez is the guy who’s going to take it away from me.â€
Regardless of what Lesnar thinks Velasquez is not exactly a slouch as he comes in with an 8-0 record including an impressive knockout of Brazilian icon Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his last fight.
Looking back, Lesnar believes that his last fight against Carwin when he almost lost in the first round made him a better fighter.
“It was a huge confidence booster knowing that I can take a pretty good shot,†Lesnar said regarding how he almost lost in that opening round.
“Obviously someone like Shane Carwin is heavy handed and landed a lot of good punches on me. But I was able to survive, come back in the second round and secure a submission victory, so it’s been a huge confidence builder for me.â€
