Cliff Lee's wife Kristen was apparently among those who were taunted and even spat upon by New York Yankees fans during the just completed ALÂ Championship Series.
According to a Sports Illustrated online report, even though Lee was obviously not happy about the rough treatment, he said that it would not influence his decision on whether or not to sign with the Yankees when he becomes a free agent following the World Series.Â
"I brush that off as fans being fans," Lee who will be pitching Game 1 of the World Series for Texas against the San Francisco Giants said.
"There were some people that were spitting off the balcony on the family section and things like that, and that's kind of weak, but what can you do?"
Lee who registered a 12-9 regular season was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Rangers in July and has been lights out in the post-season. When reflecting on his wife getting spat upon Lee couldn't resist to throw a little zinger at the Yankees and their fans.
"No I don't know the guy that did it," Lee said. It could be anyone. Who knows? Who cares?" "They're at home right now."
