The roof collapsed on more than just the Metrodome this week as the New York Giants (9-4) used a physical running game and a punishing defense to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 21-3 in a game moved to Detroit due to the collapse of the roof of the Metrodome this week. With the win the Giants remained tied for first place with the Eagles in the NFC East. With the defeat the Vikings (5-8) are all but eliminated from the playoffs after going to the NFC Championship game last season.
The Giants had both RB Brandon Jacobs and RB Ahmad Bradshaw rush for over 100 yards on the evening. Jacobs led the team with 116 yards on 14 carries and a score. Bradshaw added 103 yards on 11 carries and a score. QB Eli Manning went 22-37 for 187 yards and a score. WR Hakeem Nicks returned to the Giants lineup and led the team with 7 receptions for 96 yards.
QB Tavarius Jackson was just 15-29 for 118 yards and an interception. Jackson got the start as Brett Favre missed his first start since 1992 with an injury to his shoulder. RB Adrian Peterson managed just 26 yards on 14 carries for the Vikings. WR Sydney Rice made 5 receptions for 60 yards in the loss for Minnesota.
The Giants had four sacks on the evening and limited the Vikings to just 164 total yards. New York now will face the Eagles next week and the winner gets the upper-hand in the race for the NFC East title.
