Is Yao Ming's retirement coming after his latest surgery?  Rumors of a Yao Ming retirement coming this season have been around for a while  Now those rumors have become even more understandable as the big man just went down again with season ending surgery.
Yao had ankle surgery on Thursday to repair a stress fracture he had suffered on his left ankle. Â By now fans of the Houston Rockets have stopped getting surprised when Yao goes down with injuries like this one, but it will likely be the last injury that he suffers as a member of the franchise.
Yao has already been out since Nov. 10, having played in just five games this year before going down with what seems like a new series of injuries. Â In the final year of his contract with the Rockets, it has become a realistic rumor when retirement is discussed. Â Yao might be only 30-years-old at this point, but every man has his limit when it comes to enduring injuries.
Yao will still earn his full salary of $17.6 million this year to simply stay on injured reserve, and at the end of the season he will become a free agent. Â Now the Rockets have to decide if they want to use his contract to pull off a blockbuster trade, especially with the new value as an expiring deal. Â It could also bring back an asset or two for the Rockets to build on.
There has been no announcement that Yao will retire yet, but he discussed it last summer when he was recovering from his last injury. Â Don't be surprised if this latest injury leads to Yao Ming's retirement, and that he leaves the league with many unfulfilled promises.
So do you think Yao should retire? Â Should the Rockets try to trade him? Â Is Yao going to be signed by another team in the offseason?
