The upcoming Memorial Day weekend 2011 will include two huge events in the world of motor sports. NASCAR will hold the 2011 Coca-Cola 600 in North Carolina on Saturday. Many miles away on Sunday, Indianapolis, Indiana will be the site for an exciting 2011 Indy 500 race.
Coming up next on NASCAR's schedule is the 2011 Coca-Cola 600, which will take place on Saturday, May 28th at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This will be the second straight weekend that NASCAR has been there, following this past Saturday's All-Star race. Carl Edwards was the winner there and hopes for a repeat in this Sprint Cup Series race. So do many other drivers though.
Meanwhile, this upcoming Sunday is Memorial Day 2011 and that will be the day of the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Driver qualifying went down on the weekend, as Danica Patrick, Helio Castreneves and last year's winner, Dario Francitti, all are among those who qualified. Danica Patrick will look to win this race and make history as the first female ever to do so. Danica's best finish in the past was third. Francitti will look for a repeat back-to-back win after last year, and Castraneves will look for his fourth career Indy 500 victory.
As motor sports fans can see, this will be quite the weekend for racing. Not only will family picnics, BBQ's and gatherings be prevalent, but expect a lot of parties revolving around these two major events in North Carolina and Indiana!
