Memorial Day 2011 is almost here. The unofficial start to summer! BBQ's, tiki torches, and swimsuits start to come to life, and if you are a fan of NASCAR and Formula One racing, this weekend you are in luck! One of the most famous of all races, the Indy 500, will take center stage Sunday, May 29th at noon.
If the Indy 500 isn't enough to get your racing fix, don't worry. At 5:45 PM ET, NASCAR will take center stage with one of their biggest races of the season, the Coca Cola 600.
Dario Franchitti is the favorite to win this year's Indy 500 race, but you can bet many fans want to see how Danica Patrick will do. Patrick is not just a formula one race star, but with her model looks, she is by far one of the most popular racers in the sport today!
Over on the NASCAR side of racing, the season is half over and every race is getting more important than the last in terms of total points in the leader board chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. Carl Edwards is the current leader with 416 points. In second place is Jimmie Johnson, who is the favorite to win the Coca Cola 600 this weekend.
This weekend will be a great one everywhere for race car fans!
Let's not forget the real meaning of why we have this upcoming Monday off in America. Memorial Day is a day to reflect and to honor the tens of thousands of men and women who fight for this country's freedom, and the many who have paid the ultimate price with their lives in doing so.
