Something good is coming from the Michael Vick dogfighting case. An animal rights group has bought the house that the NFL star used for his "Bad Newz Kennels." The group, called "Dogs Deserve Better" purchased the 5 bedroom home for $600,000.
Now the Surry County Va. home once used by Michael Vick for the heinous dogfighting ring will now be used as a home and rehabilitation center for dogs who have been abused in dogfighting rings. What an appropriate turn of events for the property.
The group's founder Tamira Thayne said, "I think by us overtaking this property we are winning for the dogs. We are, in essence, giving this property back to the dogs that were abused there by using it to help other dogs just like them." This plan is a wonderful idea, and it is great that they are able to help make this once horrible place for dogs a safe haven for the animals now.
The group is looking for $3 million in donations and funding to create a full-scale rehabilitation center for abused dogs. While Michael Vick has paid his debt to society in serving 18 months in prison for his crimes connected to the dogfighting ring, perhaps he would be able to continue righting his wrong by putting up the money to rehabilitate the property for the dogs. Do you think he will do it? Do you think he should do it?
