The images of five NFL players in their uniforms appeared in an advertisement for the launch of an adult film event at a club in Miami, and the league is not too happy about it -- both from an intellectual property stand point and possibly from a moral angle.
The print ad promotes the event as hosted by adult film star Erica Mena as well as Chicago Bears safety Major Wright, other players and draftees. Also promised to be in attendance are many other adult film stars.
The NFL said that it is investigating the matter and that it could be a violation. "Our legal team is reviewing the ad. In general, companies not affiliated with the NFL or its clubs may not depict a player in his uniform."
However it appears that Wright may be regretting his affiliation with the event as he is denying involvement with a similar event to be hosted near Chicago.
Wright tweeted late Tuesday night, "FYI, I have NOTHING to do with the Exotic Expo @ the Rosemont! My pic was used without my permission. No Affiliation at all."
Even though the owners and players are involved in their own legal fight it seems the intellectual property lawyers are not too busy to keep their iron grip on the league brand as strong as ever.
