2011 NBA Trade Rumors – Celtics Moving Rondo?

The Boston Celtics lost an opportunity to win another NBA Championship this past season and with an aging team, it looks like the window is closing on the team.

Rajon Rondo is one of the best point guards in the game and offers the most trade value with his age and salary. The Celtics need to make some changes or this team could be in rebuilding mode for several years and trading Rondo at this point in his career offers Boston the most value for his services.

The latest trade rumor has the team talking with New Orleans in a deal that would send Rondo and Jeff Green to the Hornets and in exchange, Boston would get Chris Paul. Signing Paul to an extension would be the top priority, but the Celtics would then need to surround him with enough talent to win a championship.

The Celtics have the room under the salary cap to make this trade and GM Danny Ainge has done a terrific job in returning this team to such a high-caliber. Being a middle of the road team in the NBA is not where fans of the Celtics want, so look for Ainge to pursue a trade and keep the storied franchise in contention for another NBA title.

I don't understand that trade. The Celtics main problem is that they're getting old. And if I were New Orleans, I'd want more than Green and Rondo for Paul.

I agree with your first statement but for a different reason. The Celtics biggest problem is that they don't really have a center or power forward who can post up and score on a consistent basis. Garnett is mainly a mid-range shooter and Jermaine O'Neal is not even worth mentioning. "Big Baby" Davis gets some baskets off of offensive boards and occasionally posts up, but he lacks the height and jumping ability to be a real consistent force close to the basket. Marc Gasol and Andrew Bogut are the types of players Boston really needs and I doubt either one of those guys will be leaving soon.

The other problem the Celtics have now is that since they haven't been developing young players, their only trade bait is Green and/or Rondo.

The rest of the team is role players or high priced vets.

They do have one other thing that can be called called trade bait. An extra 2012 number one pick. They got it in the Jeff Green-Kendrick Perkins trade. It is the first round pick of the L.A. Clippers and it is only protected up to the number ten slot. I don't know what will happen to it, though, if the players and owners remain at odds for a long time and David Stern cancels the 2011-2012 season.
