Practical jokes amuse the USA women's soccer team as they try to relieve tension during the World Cup. Saturday in Sinsheim, Germany, the squad goes up against Columbia in the second group game. The tension is high as the USA team tries to go back to the top of the leader board. Winning the World Cup trophy is a serious pursuit, and victory over Colombia would guarantee the USA women a chance to possibly win Group C.
In regard to the team's free time, striker Abby Wambach told Yahoo Sports, "Everybody likes trying to get the better of each other with jokes and pranks, and it is all part of the fun."
What is one of the typical practical jokes that the women indulge in? It is the "old faithful" placing of buckets of water on the top of hotel room doors to give a passing victim an unexpected shower.
Coach Sundhage encourages this "sense of togetherness and team spirit".
Abby Wambach further says, "It definitely helps. Just the sense that we can be comfortable in each other's company and enjoy being around each other. Having fun away from soccer is a big part of it."
