The NBA and its teams have never been shy about trading its best players over the years and several teams have made deals involving their star players. The Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks are both rumored in trade talks involving a couple of young stars, and they may end up trading with each other.
The latest rumor has the Grizzlies sending Rudy Gay to the Hawks in exchange for Josh Smith. Both players are in their 20's and have their best years ahead of them.
Gay missed the NBA Playoffs last season, and the Grizzlies actually played better basketball without their young forward. The team used veteran Shane Battier in his place, and the leadership and defensive skills he provided helped the young Memphis squad advance in the Western Conference playoffs.
Smith has been an enigma with the Hawks as he has all the skills necessary to become an elite player in the league, but his consistency and maturity have held him back and a change of scenery appears necessary.
While this trade would benefit both teams, both players have their downside. It is just a matter of which of these young men decide to start taking their craft seriously and one or both could be a steal if a trade is made between the two NBA teams.
