Ozzie Guillen is done as manager of the Chicago White Sox. While Ozzie Guillen still has a contract with the team through 2012, he has been asking the franchise for an extension for quite a while.
ESPN has reported that he told the White Sox it is his last game on Monday. After eight years with the organization this spells the end of a very rocky tenure. While he has been able to get a lot out of a team that didn't always have the most talent, he also ruffled a lot of feathers with often colorful comments to the press.
It's surprising that Guillen would be done with his job on Monday when the season doesn't end till Wednesday, but maybe ESPN is reporting the story incorrectly. He has definitely been upset with the front office though, so maybe this is just his final statement as he heads off into the sunset.
With another disappointing season about to go in the books for Chicago, some fans might be happy that someone else will be in charge of the team soon. Others might miss the energy that he always brought to the ballpark, even if it created controversy most of the time.
What do you think about Ozzie Guillen? Will the White Sox prosper without him?
