There have been a number of great story lines in the early part of the 2011-12 NHL season and the Colorado Avalanche making a move to become a playoff contender is one of the best for not only the team, but for the league as well.
The latest trade rumor from Bleacher Report has the young Avalanche making a move for a veteran defensemen in Ryan Suter to help with the teams struggles on the defensive side of the ice. Colorado is allowing 3.4 goals per game and that is last in the NHL, and adding a physical performer on the back-end, but also an offensive threat on the power play, would make this team better for the rest of the season.
Nashville already signed their goalie to a big money contract and with Suter and Shea Weber both in the last year of their contracts, making a deal looks like the best bet for the Predators. Nashville won't have the money to resign both players and making a trade to get some young prospects looks like the team's best move at this point.
Both teams are still in the hunt for the playoffs and it could mean trouble making a deal at this moment, but Colorado needs to make something happen soon or lose the momentum they have built. Look for the front office to make some changes and if they can acquire Suter without giving up too much, a deal could happen soon.
