One of the best early season storylines in the NHL is the NY Rangers who have started the season on a great note as the team has earned 33 points in just 23 games, but the team has a definite hole on the left-wing, and the latest trade rumor has the team looking to fill that void.
Bleacher Report has suggested that the team look into a deal with the Calgary Flames for winger Rene Bourque. The 29-year-old has played the last three-plus years with the Flames, and during that time he has become a very good scoring threat with over 40 points in each season.
New York has it tough playing in the same division as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, so the team will need all the offense it can muster throughout the year to keep pace with these two NHL powers. Bourque would add the offense this team needs to compete for the rest of the season and add a bit of leadership as a veteran presence on and off the ice.
Calgary is off to a terrible start, and it looks like the team will again miss the playoffs, giving the front office some tough decisions about the veterans on the team. If the Flames are going to rebuild with youth, look for the team to make a couple of deals before the trade deadline and add some youngsters.
