Five NBA championships and a guaranteed hall pass to the Hall of Fame for one. Fourteen major titles before the age of 40 and five away from being called the greatest ever for the other. Has success made Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods feel invincible?
Vanessa Bryant reportedly caught her husband cheating multiple times
Gossip is a killer in the celebrity world and sports is no exception. No one ever said that Bryant was a saint but not even his teammates were loyal enough to cover up his biggest indiscretions. According to TMZ, several wives of fellow Los Angeles Lakers players heard from their husbands that Kobe cheated with multiple women and Vanessa Bryant finally had enough. Perhaps the biggest shocker is the name Carla DiBello, a very good friend of Kim Kardashian. It seems any time a Kardashian is in the vicinity it creates controversy.
It raises so many questions about the reasoning behind turning athletes into role models. Kobe Bryant plays a great game of basketball but his laundry list of marital infractions and court dates suggests he failed the test of being a decent human being. Even so, no player has so controlled a town and a franchise quite like him since, well, Michael Jordan. That name is one Bryant has chased since he entered the NBA and willingly accepted the role of villain to reach similar heights. Such astounding success has created a basketball icon, a man who knows he's the best at what he does. The problem is that feeling doesn't fly in marriage.
Woods, Lawrence Taylor and Kris Humphries need lessons in basic humanity
The tragic sex lives of Tiger Woods and NFL legend Lawrence Taylor are well documented. Throw in the sham marriage Kris Humphries went through and America has a clean look at the so-called role models of the next generation. Woods saw both his fortune and golf game take a hit after getting caught. Taylor allegedly raped a 16-year old girl and tarnished his already fragile reputation given his drug problems as a player. As for Humphries? His nightmare continues with new episodes of Kourtney and Kim Take New York showing exactly how his divorce came about with ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Nobody can fault these men for enjoying the life of stardom. The problem fans have is they do it through a web of lies. Derek Jeter is a classic counter example. He has never withheld the fact he enjoys the single life with many women. It's why he doesn't marry despite having a girlfriend. Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods thought they were above being judged. After all, they're both great at playing a game, right?
Sports are not black magic. It doesn't create master spells that make a person all-powerful and thus impervious to harm. Whether Woods and Bryant are considered the best to ever play when they retire doesn't matter. They're still both terrible husbands and undeserving of the role model stamp.
