The Lakers need an upgrade at the point guard position.
Derek Fisher has gotten too old to play the position. Steve Blake has been injured for a large part of the season, and their rookies just aren't ready to start. Well, there are reports coming out that the Lakers are interested in bringing in All-Star PG Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics in exchange for All-Star PF Pau Gasol.
Earlier reports this season had general manager of the Boston Celtics Danny Ainge contemplating on whether to break up the big three of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett. All three have regressed this year, and in turn, Boston is looking like a shell of its former championship self. So trading away one or two of the big three for some young talent and shipping out Rondo for Gasol could be an idea the Celtics would look over.
The Lakers would obviously benefit the most from a trade like this, as they have lacked a dominating point guard for quite some time. Former coach Phil Jackson ran an offense, which didn't necessary need a viable point guard, which is why the Lakers won two titles. However, now with Mike Brown, the Lakers run a more traditional style offense, which requires a top-notch point guard. And Rajon Rondo would fit the bill perfectly.
