Boston looked liked a team ready to make a run at repeating as NHL Stanley Cup Champions, but recent offensive struggles has cost the team, and now the Bruins are in danger of losing home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
The latest trade rumor from Bleacher Report has Ray Whitney from the Phoenix Coyotes coming east and helping the team down the stretch of the season. The veteran winger is known for instance offense, and though he is 39 years old, Whitney has scored over 50 points in seven straight years, including 53 this season with the Coyotes.
This is not the first time Whitney has been linked in a deal with Boston this season as rumors circulated around social media a few weeks ago, but with the trade deadline just one week from now, something will need to happen quickly or the Bruins could lose out on a player that could help their offensive woes and lead them into the playoffs on a high note.
The next week will see plenty of trade rumors around the NHL, but one like this makes sense as Whitney would be a short-term solution for a team that needs help now, and Phoenix would get a couple young prospects that could help the team over the long run.
