The Orlando Magic is so desperate to hold on to Dwight Howard that the franchise seems willing to hand him the keys to the castle. While a Howard trade is still possible before the March 15 deadline, the team is apparently willing to do just about anything to keep him in Orlando.
According to ESPN, this includes giving Howard the ability to decide the fate both Magic general manager Otis Smith and coach Stan Van Gundy. He basically would have the right to fire them or keep them with the franchise for next year, giving Howard power that some players have only dreamed about having.

In order to get those "powers," Howard would have to sign an extension with the Magic, but it has never seemed like he really cared about staying in Orlando. Offering to bring in a top-notch player to play beside him, extending a maximum contract offer and giving him rights typically only the owner has are all nice, but it may not be enough to convince him that this is the best decision for his future.
The NBA trade deadline is on March 15 (Thursday at 3 p.m. ET), so there is still a lot of time for Orlando to get a deal done. If Howard is truly intent to leave Orlando no matter what, then the franchise has to make a trade or risk losing its biggest asset since Shaquille O'Neal came through town.
Will Dwight Howard want to gain those powers and stay with the Orlando Magic? Are this and all the other Howard NBA trade rumors simply getting ridiculous?
