A Chris Kaman trade may finally take place today, meaning a possible Indiana Pacers trade is coming. New NBA trade rumors have the Pacers interested in making a trade with the New Orleans Hornets, suggesting that a deal could be on the horizon if the two sides can come to an agreement on a compensation package.
According to Chris Broussard at ESPN (noted here), the asking price for Kaman has also been lowered, possibly as a way to take his salary off the books before the end of the regular season. New Orleans is still willing to trade Kaman and cold actually settle for a second-round draft pick if the Pacers are willing to offer it.
Honestly, getting Kaman for a second-round draft pick seems like a steal, especially if the Pacers can offer up one for a future draft rather than for the 2012 NBA Draft. Kaman would likely become the backup center to Roy Hibbert for the Pacers, giving the team rare depth at center in this league. He could provide a lot of offense and size for the second unit and make an already deep Pacers team even better.
Among the NBA trade rumors out there, this one makes more sense than most of them. Both teams could get what they want out of this deal and the Hornets could continue the long rebuilding process. It seems like Kaman should draw more than a second-round pick, but because he is a free agent at the end of the season, the Hornets shouldn't mess around waiting for a better offer.
Do you think that an Indiana Pacers trade for Chris Kaman could make that team a true contender in the Eastern Conference this season? Should the New Orleans Hornets wait to see how some of the other NBA trade rumors place out before trading Kaman?
