Kansas City filled a need on offense with the signing of former Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis to a one year dea,l and that coupled with corner Stanford Routt being added to the team last month has the Chiefs headed in the right direction for the 2012-13 NFL season.
Heading into the upcoming draft, the team still has needs along the offensive line and at wide receiver. The latest mock from Bleacher Report has Kansas City taking Riley Reiff from Iowa. But with the team not picking until the eleventh spot, Buffalo could grab the youngster from Iowa and the Chiefs need to have a backup plan.
Jonathin Martin entered this off-season as a top five prospect, but he has slipped down draft boards after a mediocre showing at the combine, but the former Stanford lineman has the size, strength, and footwork to start immediately, and the team could have a choice between the two on draft day.
Free agent rumors have the team looking to add a nose tackle this off-season and with the improved play of the defense over the course of last season, Kansas City would like to keep that momentum moving in the right direction.
Another move is a backup quarterback, and the team was hoping Kyle Orton would resign, but he has moved on to Dallas and the Chiefs now must find a veteran that could lead this team if injuries hit Matt Cassel again. Shaun Hill from Detroit makes sense and there has been some talk of Peyton Manning, but in either case this team needs to prepare for the upcoming NFL season and have adequate replacements on their roster.
