By now most sports fans know the scoop between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. The newest player on the board though is Kanye West. Will his relationship with Kim not only affect Humphries personally but in NBA free agency too?
Dwight Howard injury opens door for New Jersey Nets on Deron Williams
Right up until last week everyone knew Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was the biggest name that would enter NBA free agency next season. Probably the name right below his was New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams. Many Nets fans feared Williams would join forces with Howard someplace else. However, the herniated disk injury suffered by the Magic big man has changed things. No one knows for sure if he'll be the same after corrective surgery and that could change how Williams looks at the free agent market. This opens the door for the Nets to make a strong push for him to stay. Then again it also takes their focus away from Kris Humphries who will also enter free agency. Up until recently nobody has mentioned the 26-year-old in free agent circles and that's a surprise. Humphries has posted career-best numbers, averaging a double-double in points and rebounds every game. So why no love from other teams? Part of it is Williams, but blame also goes to the newest power couple on the celebrity circuit.
West has helped Kardashian go from defense to offense in divorce battle
If there is one thing Kanye West isn't, it is silent. The notoriously outspoken musician struck up a relationship with Kim Kardashian and almost immediately inherited her ongoing battle with Humphries in news headlines. Up until that time Kim had few answer for a number of verbal shots by her ex-husband. West didn't waste much time using his music to fire back, at one point threatening to get friend and Nets part-owner Jay-Z to fire Humphries. If things continue in that way, the upcoming televised divorce court should turn the cold war hot. The Nets big man wasn't intimidated by West either. He came right back by saying his former wife only hooked up with the singer for publicity and would do anything for fame. It's the same reason he used when he called their 72-day marriage a sham. Whether it's true or not is left for the judges to decide. That doesn't change the fact that basketball team won't want a distraction like that.
If players got judged by play alone, Kris Humphries would have his pick of interested teams. Unfortunately, thanks partly to Dwight Howard and Deron Williams, and partly to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, he might have a hard time finding a job when NBA free agency opens this fall.
