An update on the Derrick Rose injury sustained in the fourth quarter, is not good. The Chicago Bulls guard tore his ACL, and is reportedly out for the post season. Will the Bulls suffer the same fate as the New York Knicks did with Jeremy Lin's absence?
With less than two minutes to play in Game 1 of the NBA playoffs, the Bulls appeared to have the game in hand. They held a double-digit lead over Philadelphia, and it looked like a certain victory. However, coach Tom Thibodeau kept Rose in the game. That's when things went wrong, and fast.
With a 12-point lead and the clock showing 1:10 minutes to play, Derrick Rose went down hard on the floor, writhing in pain. Moments later, he was helped off the floor as the arena went silent, and his team showed signs of distress.
Later, the unthinkable was confirmed: Derrick Rose's injury involved a torn ACL, and would need surgery. And it got worse: He is out for the rest of the playoffs.
Chicago Bulls fans weighed in on Twitter:
@OfficialElsii said: "Remember Bulls fans. We aren't the #1 team in the league for nothing. Stop being so down. Rose from Chicago, he's strong. We're GOOD."
@LilFolkes7414 said: "#FML IM ONE DEPRESSED BULLS FAN RIGHT NOW SMH :-( Bulls' Rose suffers torn ACL, out for season..."
Now the attention turns to the Miami Heat. In Game 1, Lebron James, and company gave the NY Knicks an old fashion beat-down. The Knicks, like the Chicago Bulls are without its starting point guard. Citing a New York Times report from today, Jeremy Lin is progressing ahead of schedule.
The Knicks guard suffered a minor tear weeks ago, and underwent knee surgery. He played one-on-one today, but his prognosis has not changed. Based on the team's performance today, if the Knicks hope to escape the first round, Jeremy Lin has to be part of the equation.
Today's loss to the Miami Heat without their star point guard is further evidence of how important the position is in setting the transition offense.
However, the "awful" Derrick Rose injury may not damper the Chicago Bulls' forward momentum. When the star guard was out in the second half of the regular season, his team played well against the competition. However, it's the playoffs, and things can change on a dime.
Are you concerned the injury Derrick Rose sustained with his torn ACL will cause the Chicago Bulls to lose a shot at the Finals? Will the Bulls follow in the path of the New York Knicks, that paid a heavy price in Game 1 with Jeremy Lin's absence?
