Denver made some big news this NFL off-season with the team adding veteran quarterback Peyton Manning and now the front office is looking at the draft to add players to help this team reach the playoffs for a second straight year.
The Broncos made some interesting moves this weekend and while some have experts scratching their heads, other seemed to fill needs that they have heading into the upcoming football season.
With the team trading Tim Tebow, they needed to grab a quarterback and Brock Osweller was their choice in round two. Osweller had some terrific off-season workouts and climbed draft boards all across the league, but this team has needs and a decent backup could have been picked in the later rounds.
Their top choice of defensive tackle Derek Wolfe also seems to be a reach, but the scouting department for the team gives him high marks and they did what they felt was best. Young running back Ronnie Hillman was electrifying at San Diego State, but he has just two years of college experience and the jump to the NFL might be a bit soon. Hillman could become a steal as he has the speed to break long runs, but he will need to add some bulk to take the hits at the professional level.
The Broncos grade for their draft choices is a C from Matt Miller of New Era Scouting, but time will tell the story and the team could surprise experts with a couple of the choices they made over this past week, especially Hillman who could turn into a stud duel-threat running back.
