The WWE Extreme Rules 2012 results went to the extreme during a Chicago Street Fight on Sunday night. In the matchup, Chris Jericho took on the hometown favorite, CM Punk, with the WWE Championship on the line.
For the Extreme Rules match results, one championship had already changed hand when Chris Jericho and CM Punk brought their feud center stage in front of Punk's family and friends. In this match, there were a variety of weapons used by each competitor, and to good effect. Chris Jericho also got several of his finishers including the always tough Walls of Jericho, and the vicious Codebreaker.
However, it was not to be Jericho's night as Chicago's "favorite son" was able to use his wits and rallying fans to pull off the victory. At one point, Punk looked ready to tap out. However, Punk got under the ropes to break the hold. In a match of this type, that doesn't matter though, as there's no disqualifications. So the hold stayed locked in. Luckily for Punk, there was a fire extinguisher under the ring which he managed to reach from the apron and sprayed into Jericho's face to break the hold.
Other spots saw a Kendo stick used by both guys for repeated smashing. There was a steel chair, an exposed turnbuckle, TV monitors, Jericho getting smashed by Punk's sister, and Punk hitting an impressive Macho Man style elbow drop from the corner turnbuckle. That move left both guys laid out through a smashed Spanish announcers table.
Later on in the ring, a turnbuckle that Jericho had exposed came back to haunt him. Punk dropped Jericho on the turnbuckle then managed to get him into his finisher, the GTS for the big pinfall win. It was certainly one of the more entertaining matches of the night with both guys taking a lot of punishment. However, Punk showed why exactly he is "Chicago's favorite son" and the WWE champion. One has to wonder where this feud will go from here. Will it continue, or will Punk face a new adversary?
