The Mayweather vs. Cotto fight results are in, with the winner of the 2012 boxing match now official. So was it Floyd Mayweather Jr., or Miguel Cotto who won this HBO boxing main event in Vegas?
According to the LA Times, round-by-round recap, Floyd Mayweather took this one by decision, in dominant fashion. Looking over the individual rounds, Cotto won just rounds 6 and 8, while most of the other 12 rounds went to Mayweather. Fans who missed it can watch one of the best rounds below via a YouTube video clip.
The Times report notes that if someone were to turn on the fight to see the best action of the night, it was during round 8. During this particular round, Cotto really came on strong, trying to win the fight. Miguel was able to back and keep Mayweather on the ropes and started to punch away with combo punches to the body and head. This was enough to get the judges to each give Cotton round 8 with scores of 10-9. Unfortunately for him he was unable to knock down Mayweather.
Floyd ws at his "sharpest" in the 12th round, according to post-fight analysis. It's always good to finish up strong, and "Money" definitely did so in this instance. That led to a final decision with judges' scores of 118-110, 117-111, and 117-111, giving Mayweather his 43rd career win and Cotto's title to add to his resume.
Now with this win in the books, is a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquaio any closer to happening? Time will tell as Pac-man has a fight coming up next against currently-undefeated Timothy Bradley. Yesterday's Cinco de Mayo bout was supposed to be Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, but negotiations fell through leading to a different story. So for now, Mayweather can celebrate his win, and hopefully find a way to get in the ring with Manny next.
