Injuries have hit several MLB teams hard and clubs will start looking outside their rosters for help, especially those who are contending for a spot in the post-season.
St Louis has lost Lance Berkman to a serious knee injury and youngster Matt Adams will get his shot as their new starter at first base. The team also has Carlos Beltran and his bad wheels on their roster and there is no telling how long his legs will hold up, so making a deal before the trade deadline is a strong possibility.
Bleacher Report writer Joel Reuter suggests the team make a move for Houston Astros veteran Carlos Lee. Lee is in the last year of his big six-year contract and though he has lost a step, his power is something St Louis could use as they battle for the NL Central crown.
Look for St Louis to try getting by with some younger players, but if they or the team starts to struggle, the front office will need to look elsewhere for a big bat and Lee would provide the Cardinals with an experienced player with power, something the Cardinals will need at some point during this MLB season.
