In last night's UFC 146 results, it was champion Junior Dos Santos who defeated challenger Frank Mir in the main event. Dos Santos landed a huge right hand to his opponent before finishing him off on the ground. The TKO occurred at 3:04 of the second round, and allowed him to retain the UFC World Heavyweight Championship.According to post-match comments from the champ at Huffington Post, Dos Santos said afterwords:
"I'm feeling awesome! It's not bad for a nice guy, huh? ... Frank Mir is a really good fighter, too. I came here to defend my belt, and I did it."
In all, last night's main event lasted just over 8 minutes total. In the UFC 146 Dos Santos vs. Mir video below, fans can see some of the highlights from the fight with the champ in control. Mir said of his opponent:
"He's a champ. He's fast. I couldn't get out of the way. He hit me hard. There were just too many of them, and they were hard shots. I couldn't do anything about it."
Many believe this was as much about showing his dominance as champ, as it was about getting revenge. That revenge would be for what Mir did to Dos Santos' mentor, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, when he broke his arm in a fight last December. While Dos Santos downplayed that aspect of the fight, but it may very well have played into his mentality Saturday night. Nonetheless, he showed exactly why he is the man to beat as UFC Heavyweight champion!
