A number of quality NFL free agents are still available and teams will look to begin filling needs after the OTA's and the start of training camp. Here is a look at the top remaining players that could still help a team win and what teams could use their services in the upcoming football season.
Cedric Benson has produced solid numbers at running back for the last few seasons, but off-field concerns and his age, still have the veteran looking for a place to play next year. Benson is 29 years old, but his numbers over the last three years are impressive, especially considering that the Bengals are not an offensive power in the league. Oakland is looking for depth in their back-field and the Raiders could use Benson as a short-term solution. There are a few other teams that could get in the mix for the veteran, but the Raiders make the most sense with their salary cap concerns and the loss of Michael Bush to free agency.
Plaxico Burress played some good football for the NY Jets last season, but the 34-year-old has been shown little interest this off-season. With eight touchdowns and over 600 yards receiving last year, teams like Miami and Carolina are possible destinations for the veteran wide receiver.
Jake Scott is a durable offensive guard that has started every game over the last seven years, but the 31-year-old is struggling to find a new home and it makes little sense with so many teams needing depth on their offensive line. Scott will likely remain a free agent until training camp starts, but the veteran guard will find a new home when injuries start to take their toll around the NFL.
Teams are looking for youth, but a veteran can provide leadership on and off the field and that can't always be overlooked. These free agents will give a team that depth they need next season, but for now they are just keeping in shape and waiting for that phone call to give them one last shot in the league.
