Chad Ochocinco has been released by the New England Patriots just hours after trade talks ended. He had restructured his deal from $3 million to $925,000 in an effort to stay on the team. However, money was not the main issue for this released. Ochocinco was unable to learn the playbook to the satisfaction of the staff, and anyone who follows the NFL knows how high the Patriots' standards are.
The Patriots have been busy with their receivers this off-season. Wes Welker received the franchise tag and Deion Branch was retained as well with Jabar Gaffney and Donté Stallworth being added. These additions make an aging receiver that has trouble learning the playbook expendable. Chad Ochocinco caught just fifteen passes and one touchdown in his season in New England, and his lone touchdown was quite a few games into the otherwise stellar Pats' season. Hopefully Ochocinco finds another team that is a better fit for him than the receiver-by-committee approach of New England.
