The Chicago Cubs hired GM Theo Epstein away from Boston during the off-season to rebuild the storied MLB team, but he has a tough job ahead and it will start at the trade deadline as the team looks to add young prospects that will help this team in the near future.
Chicago has a number of veterans that are rumored on the move and Ryan Dempster is the latest as the right-hander is expected to move before the deadline next month. Bleacher Report writer Alex Sims has the LA Dodgers as one team that could use the 35-year-old down the stretch of the 2012 season.
Dempster is on the DL, but has pitched well for the struggling Cubs with a 3-3 mark, but the true sign of his success this season is his 2.11 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. The Dodgers are one of the biggest surprises of the MLB season with the best mark in baseball, but Los Angeles could use some depth and a veteran that can help in the locker room over the last half of the year.
There are still a few weeks until the trade deadline, but teams in contention could make some early moves to keep the momentum they have built with their hot start. LA is just one team that could make a deal or two in the next few weeks and adding a solid veteran pitcher to their rotation will help in their attempt to win the NL West.
