Houston is struggling again this year and the Astros are looking to rebuild through the draft and low-priced veterans. Wandy Rodriquez is owed over $20 million through the 2013 MLB season and it makes little sense for the team to keep him past the trade deadline.
The latest from Doug Mead of Bleacher Report has several teams interested in the left-handed pitcher, but the NY Yankees top the list. New York has the financial resources to make this deal and the team has some solid players they could send to Houston for his services.
Rodriquez is having another solid season as his 6-4 mark with a 3.35 ERA would indicate. The Yankees are looking to keep a hold on the top spot in the AL East and add the depth they need to make a run at a World Series title and making a trade for another stud pitcher could be the move that sets this team over the top.
With the MLB trade deadline still a few weeks off, look for Houston to look for the best deal possible, but in the end, few teams have the money to make this move and the NY Yankees are the front-runner if a trade happens.
