It has been one of the most talked about topics all week. Is SBW leaving New Zealand shores to chase a rebirth in rugby league? Every sporting writer, critic, and viewer has had an opinion since Monday morning—actually, since well before that. There have been rumours of William's signing a deal with the Sydney Roosters, rumours of William's signing on for another year with the NZRU, and even a stint in Japan has been speculated about over the last couple of days.
A report published in Australia this morning suggests that Sonny Bill Williams and the Sydney Roosters NRL club have not yet agreed to a deal, and that a possible return to league for SBW is still a far way off yet. In a recent interview, NZRU Boss Steve Tew said he knows of Sonny's plans for the future, but cannot reveal any details about where the most talked about man in sport is heading in the near future. Tew went on to say that Williams has been in Dunedin all week with the Chiefs preparing for tonight's clash against the Highlanders in Super Rugby.
It has been confirmed that SBW is considering a lucrative offer made to him by a Japanese rugby union club, the Panasonic Knights, and also Toulon owner, Mourad Boudjellal, has also reportedly tried to lure Williams back to France for a season or two. The Roosters' interest in Williams has been well documented in the last few months. If Sonny Bill Williams returns to league next year, he will be eligible to play for the Kiwis in next year's World Cup, and have the opportunity to add a Rugby League World Title crown alongside his 2011 Rugby World Cup winning medal.
An official announcement could be made sometime before July 14th.
What do you think? Will SBW stay and sign on for a few more seasons with the NZRU? Or will he return to Europe?
