The NBA Draft 2012 results for the first round have already started, and the first three selections all came from college basketball's SEC conference. After that, the draft started to reveal some surprises. Who went in the early picks?
With the NBA Draft live streaming, many of the best players in college basketball have now stepped onto the stage and shaken David Stern's hand. The #1 pick went just as anticipated with Anthony Davis going to the New Orleans Hornets, but it was a historic draft when the #2 pick was called. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who was a teammate of Davis' at Kentucky this past season, was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats. This made the first time ever that the first two players selected came from the same school.
Kidd-Gilchrist now joins the NBA's all-time worst winning percentage team, but will be playing for a legend in Michael Jordan. To continue with the SEC theme, Bradley Beal of Florida was taken third in the draft by the Washington Wizards. Then one of the night's first surprises arrived as Dion Waiters from Syracuse was taken higher than anticipated at #4 by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He'll join Kyrie Irving as part of a young, emerging backcourt.
It's going to be interesting to see which of the top four guys turn out to be stars in the league. Everyone is already predicting Anthony Davis is a franchise player, but that's never a given. Will any of the picks at #2 through #4 emerge as top stars in the coming years?
