Kevin Garnett will return to the Boston Celtics for at least the next three seasons. This is the latest NBA rumor getting reported by Marc Spears at Yahoo!, who states that Garnett and the Celtics have agreed to a three-year, $34 million contract extension.
This is a huge deal for the Celtics, especially because it means they get Garnett back for a bit of a discount. That will leave some more room under the salary cap for the team to sign some other free agents, possibly someone to take over at shooting guard for Ray Allen.
The Celtics really needed Garnett to come back for another year, but maybe giving him a three-year contract was overselling just how much he is worth to the franchise. Maybe it will turn out that the third year is an option within the contract, but it really seems like it is too much to expect Garnett to continue playing at an elite level in that third year.
Getting the Garnett signing done means that the team can focus on other things this offseason, including making a decision on what to do with their free agent shooting guard.
Do you think that the Boston Celtics made the right move by bringing back Kevin Garnett? Who else should the Celtics try to sign in the NBA offseason?
