Nicolas Batum is ready to go to the Minnesota Timberwolves and apparently he wants the Portland Trail Blazers to just let him go. This could create many different NBA trade rumors, possibly with the Blazers trying to get something in return for Batum.
According to ESPN, Batum has already reached a verbal agreement with Minnesota, deciding that he likes the situation that the team has to offer. This isn't the worst news possible for Portland though, because as a restricted free agent, the Blazers can match any offer that gets extended to him.
Now the serious issue is right in front of the Blazers, which is a team that can't really afford to lose a talented player like Batum for nothing in return. If the Blazers don't think that they can financially match the offer coming from Minnesota, the team has got to work on a sign-and-trade deal to get some assets back.
Batum must like the possibility of playing with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio next season, possibly one of the best young duos in the NBA. It would certainly help Batum to play with a good point guard that knows how to distribute the ball, because Portland definitely doesn't have one of them.
Do you think that Nicolas Batum could make the Minnesota Timberwolves a contender? Can the Portland Trail Blazers afford to let Batum get away?
