NBA trade rumors about Dirk Nowitzki have finally been addressed by someone in a position of importance. As the Dallas Mavericks try to figure out a way to rebuild the roster after losing key pieces like Tyson Chandler, Jason Terry, and Jason Kidd, it has been revealed that Nowitzki won't be going anywhere.
Mavericks general manager Donnie Walsh may have put an end to rumors by simply stating that Nowitzki is "a Mav for life." That's a pretty telling quote, not just because it shows that the franchise is dedicated to its superstar, but also because Nowitzki hasn't wanted to abandon a team that is trying to find its way.

This is exactly the opposite of what is taking place between the Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard, with Howard losing grasp on what the word "loyalty" actually means. In the same instant, Walsh confirmed that the Mavericks aren't going to give up their best asset and fulfilled Nowitzki's need to simply be wanted by the team he has dedicated his entire career to.
The Mavericks are making a good choice by continuing to build around Nowitzki, as he is one of the rare talents in the NBA that defenders don't have an answer to. Keeping him and rebuilding through other pieces is probably going to bring continued success to Dallas.
Are you surprised that the Dallas Mavericks are so invested in keeping Dirk Nowitzki? Should Nowitzki even want to leave Dallas?
