Dallas was looking towards the NBA free agent signing period to strengthen its aging roster, but the team lost out on Deron Williams and now is struggling to find depth for their back-court.
The latest rumor from Bleacher Report has the Mavericks showing interest in O.J. Mayo from Memphis. The young shooting guard could add some instant offense as he averaged over 12 points coming off the bench last year, but in his first two years with the Grizzlies, the former first round draft pick averaged over 18 points as a starter.
Dallas is looking to add some youth and get back as a contender in the Western Conference, but after losing Jason Terry and Jason Kidd this off-season, signing a quality shooter like Mayo is a good step forward.
The Mavericks won an NBA title just two years ago, but they struggled to make the post-season this year. The front office and owner Mark Cuban need to add some decent young talent over the next couple of seasons or they risk becoming just another team in the league.
