The LA Lakers added the point guard they needed, but the team still has a big hole to fill at small forward and Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks would make a great fit in the Purple and Gold for the upcoming NBA season.
This trade rumor has circulated around social media for months and LA Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak should think wisely as adding a young forward with the skills of Smith could make this a championship team.
The deal would have veteran forward Pau Gasol heading to Atlanta, giving the Hawks the veteran presence they want. Los Angeles would rid themselves of a big contract and a player that has struggled the last two post-seasons.
It has been a while since the LA Lakers have had that small forward that can excel on both ends of the court and adding a young star to help this team after Kobe Bryant hangs up his sneakers is a must. The Dwight Howard deal is not likely to happen and having Bryant, Steve Nash, Smith, Bynum, and Josh McRoberts as the starting five could have this team battling Oklahoma City for the best record in the Western Conference and with some added depth on the bench, this team could contend for an NBA title in the 2012-13 season.
