New Boston Red Sox trade rumors suggest that a Jacoby Ellsbury trade could be coming very soon. There are apparently interested teams already, with Gordon Edes of ESPN suggesting that a deal could take place this winter.
It's very clear that Boston is having trouble competing in the American League East with their current roster, but trading Ellsbury seems like a desperate move. The team hasn't been able to enjoy him in the lineup much this season, so maybe the front office in Boston has forgotten how good he can be at the plate.
Teams that might want to acquire the services of Ellsbury include the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers. There are other teams that could use a boost on offense, especially the Seattle Mariners, who haven't been able to figure things out on offense since the 2001 season.
It would seem like trading Ellsbury is an act of desperation from the Red Sox, but it could also turn out that these rumors are nothing more than that. Sure, a lot of teams would love to have Ellsbury, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Red Sox are actually ready to part with the best asset they have on offense.
What do you think of these latest Boston Red Sox trade rumors? Do you think that a Jacoby Ellsbury trade would ever really take place or that these rumors are nothing more than conjecture?
