The NBA trade rumors for 2012 have really been non-stop when it comes to one player, and that's Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard. In a recent video report, it was debated as to whether he might end up with the LA Lakers or Dallas Mavericks for his new home. The D-Howard trade rumors are discussed once again, but this time in a new video report. Two sports analysts take a look at which team they believe is the best fit for Howard, since it's quite obvious that his days in Orlando are pretty much over. In fact, it will be surprising if he suits up for the Magic in 2012-13 with all the bad blood there seems to be between him and management at this point.
According to Bleacher Report, Howard's best option is to either go to the Lakers, or the Mavericks. Both are already playoff contenders, but adding Howard makes them title contenders. Some say the Lakers are with Nash, Kobe, and Gasol in the lineup, but then add in a big man like Howard and there's no question.
Another analyst suggests that Howard signing with the Dallas Mavs is a better idea. He says adding Howard along with Dirk Nowitzki, and possibly signing or acquiring Chris Paul, would make the Mavs just as lethal in the Western Conference. The analyst notes that Dallas doesn't have the trade assets to get Howard, so a signing would be necessary. If that's so, it means Howard might be stuck in Orlando this season, or traded somewhere for a one-year stay. That's unfortunate for that team that gets stuck in the middle of that situation.
However, there's one dark horse team that the same analyst who recommended the Mavs says is a better fit for Howard. That would be the Atlanta Hawks. He cites the facts that Howard is from there, is friends with current Hawks player Josh Smith, and that the city is the 9th largest metropolitan area in the United States. It's also mentioned that Howard would be the biggest signing ever for the team, no disrespect to Dominique Wilkins, and he could "mold the team in his image." The question is, would he want to?
When it comes down to it, it's an interesting situation, but it almost seems inevitable that the Lakers would be Howard's choice. He'd become the next great center in Los Angeles, following in the footsteps of guys like Kareem and Shaq. He could possibly be in a position to win several championships, as it always seems the Lakers management is looking to make huge moves to shake up the NBA and bolster their roster. Yes, it seems like LA should be the preferred destination of D-Howard, if he and his people can ever get some sort of legitimate deal together.
Which team would you most like to see Dwight Howard play for in 2012-13?
