Lauren Perdue got asked out to dinner by one of the biggest sports stars in the world. So why did she turn him down?
The man in question was LeBron James, who is one of the few athletes competing for the U.S. who probably has more endorsement deals than Lauren's fellow swimmers Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Lauren tweeted this about LeBron asking her to have dinner with him:
"Lebron James just invited me to dinner... Um
wuuuutttt?!?"
She also shared a photo of her with her arm around LeBron.
The brunette beauty's tweet got a lot of attention on Twitter, likely because LeBron is engaged to girlfriend Savannah Brinson, whom he's been dating since high school.
Soccer star Hope Solo recently revealed that life at the Olympic village can be pretty wild with lots of sex and partying, so some people were probably wondering if LeBron James was asking Lauren Perdue out to dinner to try to get in her pants. Unfortunately for guys who fall for swimmers, those state-of-the-art suits can be extremely tight.
LeBron has long been dogged by cheating rumors, so obviously this didn't help his cause.
However, 21-year-old Lauren later said that she turned LeBron down because of her curfew and that there was nothing naughty about the way he asked her dinner. According to the New York Daily News, she said this of the incident, "He was kind of joking but he was basically like, 'Would you like to come eat with me at the dining hall?' And I said, 'Um, I'm sorry, I have a curfew. So I turned that one down, yeah.'" She made sure to make it clear that LeBron was only asking her to share a meal with him and nothing more.
Perhaps LeBron just wanted to see her gold medal because he can't wait to win one of his own - Lauren recently took home the gold as a member of the women's 400x200m freestyle relay. Or maybe he's actually interested in taking up swimming - it is a great low impact workout for any athlete.
Whatever the case may be, it's pretty humorous that living Olympic village is like being in high school all over again for these athletes -- they have to find people to sit with in the cafeteria so they don't look like loner losers, and they have to have curfews to keep them out of trouble. Hopefully LeBron's feelings weren't hurt too badly, and perhaps he found another of the cool kids who have won a gold medal to sit with -- or at least another girl watching her weight who would give him most of her food.
